Jay Rock, è stat oil primo membro della TDE a ottenere un contratto con una major, ma si è fatto più volte sorpassare nell’ordine di uscite del collettivo. Redemption, ultimato più di un anno fa, è stato bruscamente rimandato a causa di un incidente quasi fatale (“I think ‘bout if my motorcycle crash was fatal / Broken bones, internal bleedin’, stretched on the table / Goin’ through surgery, two machines helpin’ me breathe”, dalla title track), episodio che qui ritorna diverse volte, intervallato da quelli che riguardano invece la sua vita da ex gang banger a Watts, California. “Redemption” non delude, tanto quanto il precedente “90059” del 2015, con Jay Rock che mantiene la sua impronta unica nella TDE, tra le liriche di Isaiah Rashad e l’attitudine da gangster di ScHoolboy Q.
